This 'n that

exploding-computer.jpgWhat a week this has been!  And it’s only Wednesday!  One of the strangest things happened to my computer Monday.  It “semi” crashed.  When I left for work I turned it off, like I always do.  When I came home, it was on, and it was acting like it was a brand new computer.  By that I mean it took me through all the steps it took me through to set it up when I first bought it.  By the time I finished, I discovered that – thank GOD – all my files were present.  My pictures are safe!!!  My programs are all gone, but easily reinstalled.  All in all, I think I got lucky.  I think.

In other news, I finally bit the bullet and joined Netflix.  I hoping it will save us some money in the long run, as my hubby would much rather buy a movie that rent one.  The convenience of being able to mail it back will help, I hope.  Anything I need to watch?

Still no job for the hubby.  He had an impromptu job interview last week, but the guy he interviewed with is on vacation this week, so we hope to hear next week.  How impromptu?  He walked into the office to hand in a resume and as luck would have it, the hiring manager and his boss were both there and one thing led to another and they interviewed him!  It sounded like they were really pleased with him – he lives in a good, convenient location, good experience, etc, etc.  So fingers crossed!

Coming soon - my Once Upon A Challenge recap, Queen of Camelot review (which is fantastic so far!) and maybe a belly shot picture.  So you can see how huge I am!

  1. Wow, what a week is right! Glad to hear that your computer is more or less in tact and that you didn't lose any of your important goodies. What a disaster that could've been

Much much much luck for the hubby!

Enjoy Netflix! I know I do. I suggest watching Shopgirl if you haven't seen it yet. Really fun, sweet movie.

  2. Very odd that you mention your semi-crash. The same exact thing happened with my PDA the day before yesterday. I need to have my hubby take a look at it, but my first guess is the battery ran down and when I put it back in the charger, it tried to synch with my computer and had to re-boot.

You'll love Netflix! We don't watch any tv anymore. Just movies. Ya gotta get all the good series — Deadwood, Battlestar Gallactica (new series), Foyle's War, Greys Anatomy, House, Sopranos, etc. Have fun!! Oh, and I agree with Andi. Shopgirl is very good!

  3. Wow, sounds like a close call with the computer.

We don't do Netflix; we buy our movies and watch them over and over, again. But, I know a lot of people have been pleased with the convenience of Netflix.

I'm a fan of European movies, like On Guard (French) and Il Postino, myself. We just watched Night in the Museum and enjoyed it, but the divorced, irresponsible dad thing gets awfully tiresome and repetitive. European movies are much more creative.

  4. Already had it on the list Andi! I loved the book so I've been wanting to see that movie. And I have a weird thing for Jason Schwartzman. :)
That bites about the PDA Les. I hope it will be okay. We already own all of Deadwood (I got him the last set for Father's Day), Sopranos, and House (Gotta have my Hugh!) but I have added several other series to my queue. I got my first movie today! So exciting!
Nancy, we buy a TON of movies. I really should take a picture of them all. He watches his stuff over and over again but I admit I don't. I don't usually buy what I want to see for that reason.. I'm hoping I'll finally be able to see the things I want to see now. I love foreign films so I'll definitely look into those. Ellie really liked Night at the Museum and I thought it pretty cute. I would like to see Ben Stiller play something a little different for the change, he seems the same in all his movies. Owen Wilson too.
I can't seem to add friends yet, but I'll definitely have to add all of you when I can!

  5. Good luck to your husband! I do hope he gets the job.

My husband and I subscribe to Netflix and in the beginning we were very quick about watching the movies and returning them. Now we are a lot less so. I do like the convenience of it. Like your husband, we were buying most of the DVD's we wanted to watch and Netflix has proven to be a moneysaver in that regard. Not to mention we've gotten to rent tv shows that we wanted to check out without having to pay an outrageous price for them.
