Monday Rambles and a Call for Help

A call for help, I say? Why, yes. I need your help. You see, I used to listen to a lot of music. Then my tastes changed, radio got extremely boring, I discovered audiobooks, and I had children. So, I don’t listen to a lot of music any more. Or, rather, I listen to the same stuff I have been listening to for years. YEARS. Saturday, my daughter requested that I play something, anything, new. In my spare time this past weekend, I’ve been looking on YouTube, iTunes, and Spotify for new stuff I like. But I don’t have a lot of spare time, so I’m coming to you. Here is a sampling of what I found that I liked:

fun.: Some Nights

Sigur Rós: Ekki múkk (moving art)

Mumford and Sons: The Cave (thanks Kathy!)

Gym Class Heroes: Fighter, featuring Ryan Tedder

I also like:

The Civil Wars: 20 Years (and everything else they do)

Katy Perry: Wide Awake

Max Richter: On the Nature of Daylight

David Garrett: The 5th

So, can you help me? And help my poor children? We’ll be forever grateful. Really. Grate.ful.

Girlyman! Been loving their new CD, Supernova, especially Empire of Our State…

  2. So wish I could help you, sweetie, but I am the least musically literate person on the planet. I will be very interested to see what people say suggest. :)
And thanks–I totally love that song by The Civil Wars! I'm so going to check out more of their stuff!

  3. I've already offered all the help I have in the form of my playlist. lol

If you like Mumford and Sons, you should give Boy & Bear a go, they're really good.

First Aid Kit are one of my current obsessions as well.

  5. OH I love Sigur Ros so so so so so much, Heather!! You made my night seeing that you've been liking them :) I'm at work right now, but I'll send you a list of bands I think you'll like via email soon :) I have a good idea of what I think you'll like…this makes me really excited!

  6. I’m completely in love with The Head and the Heart and Avett Brothers right now. Regina Spektor is also a favorite.

This is going to sound weird, but go to http://www.plumgoodsstore.com.

It's a great little store in Santa Barbara that I stumbled into last month and they had the most interesting music playing. Turns out, they post some of their playlists on their blog. Just scroll through all of the older posts and click on some of the songs. Lots of interesting cover tunes and bands! My favorite is LP's cover of Halo.

Okay, I finally made it back to listen to all the videos, and let me just say…OMG DAVID GARRETT.

My favorites lately (besides Sigur Ros who are my super duper faves) are The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Glasvegas, Band of Horses and Coconut Records. Also, the singer of Sigur Ros is Jonsi and his solo stuff is just as good. He did the soundtrack to We Bought a Zoo.
