So, yesterday was a milestone. I turned the big 29. Facing my last year in my twenties has been…not necessarily depressing…but disconcerting at least. I am not looking forward to my next birthday. Of course, it didn’t help that everyone was telling me I’d be middle-aged next year. I don’t think so!!!
Anyway, I got some nice gifts last night at my birthday party. Lasagna, garlic bread (YUM) and birthday cake went down very nicely, then the unwrapping commenced. I had lots of help as my daughter, niece, and nephew just knew I couldn’t open them alone. Here’s what I got:
The Faerie Path by Frewin Jones, a new book, which I am not sure how they got it as Amazon says it doesn’t come out til Feb 6!! Was SO excited to see it!
A $30 B&N Gift card!! Yay I have $60 to blow on my next trip! Which may be today if I can find the energy!!!
The Illusionist, can’t wait to see this one!
Mirrormask because I love me some Neil Gaiman!
The Black Dahlia (the movie, not the book) and been wanting to see it too.
Some comfy new Sketchers and socks. I swear I don’t feel like I’m wearing shoes! I love them!
A very soft, snuggly sweater.
Some new, bigger jammas for my growing belly and flip flops. I love flip flops!!!
A new pocketbook with lotions from Bath and Body. Hmm….smells so good!
And, as usual, I ordered a few books for myself. From The Book Depository I ordered:
The Tea Rose by Jennifer Donnelly
WInter Rose by Jennifer Donnelly
Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
And, since Andi got me hooked on the Vampire Diaries I ordered the other 3 in that set. All in all a marvelous day.
Best present of all, the day before I had my first OB appointment and everything looks good. I’m growing in all the right places! Feb 7 I go for another ultrasound just to give me peace of mind. Due date is September 7.

Hooray for good birthdays! What a haul! You made out like a bandit.
And congrats on the good OB appointment! September 7th is a good day–not too hot, not too cold. My mom was pregnant with me in the ungodly heat wave of 1980 and I've heard her recount the horror for years, so I always take weather into consideration with pregnancies. lol
I'm 33 and so far the thirties have been the best time of my life! Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday. Sounds like you got a great haul.
Now what are these Vampire Diaries you speak of…
Glad you had a great b-day! My package should be arriving soon!
Happy Belated Birthday, Heather! You are so young. Don't worry about turning 30 next year. My thirties were great. And what a great haul. I have to order Winter Rose. I loved The Tea Rose and don't know what I'm waiting for. Boy, September will be here before you know it!
Andi, it was awful hot the year I was pregnant with Ellie. I'm hoping it won't be that bad this year. It's horrible to be 8 months pregnant and it be in the high 90s outside. And you know how humid it gets here! Ack!
Stephanie, I am SO glad to hear that!
Thanks Fence! The Vampire Diaries are a series by LJ Smith that came out in the 80s (right Andi?). They remind me a bit of Twilight and New Moon by Stephenie Meyer. I don't like them QUITE as good as those (probably because I am reading them after) but they are still really good. They are pretty hard to find too!
Amanda, I can't wait!!! And thank you!
Thanks Les! I can't wait to read Winter Rose. And The Book Depository had another one coming out this year; the third in the trilogy I guess. I don't understand why these are coming out in England before they come out here. It's not like she's an English author, she's American!!!
Happy Birthday Heather! Have fun spending all that book money. For what it's worth I was also freaked out by 29 but 30 was a breeze
Now I need to go look for these Vampire diaries.
Happy Birthday Heather!
The Jennifer Donnelly books have been coming out in Australia and New Zealand first, which makes even less sense, but makes me happy! LOL!! Enjoy those. The Winter Rose was a fantastic read. Paullina Simons books come out here first as well, and she is another American author.
Happy Birthday! The 30s can be the best time of your life…you have experience and wisdom combined with youth. Go for it.
Happy Birthday! Enjoy the last year of your 20s
I'm turning 29 this year as well, and I'm actually looking forward to turning 30 more.
Happy Birthday! I was so happy to reach my thirties. Not that my twenties were bad, but I think I've always been 30-something. Haha
Sounds like you had a nice birthday.
Hey, Happy Birthday!!! I agree with the pro 30's thoughts. So far these have been the best years ever.
You got some fantastic gifts! I've been dying to see Mirrormask again lately…have got to get it back from the friend I loaned it to.
Oh, the 30s are so NOT middle age!!!! Happy belated birthday–looks like you got some wonderful gifts. I watched the Illusionist this past weekend and really liked it!
Happy Belated birthday! And I have to resoundingly agree with Danielle: 30s is nowhere near middle-aged. Things are just getting started!
Sounds like you had a great birthday! Congrats on the baby news!! And 30 is NOT middle-aged.
I'm late but no less sincere in wishing you congratulations on your pregnancy and a belated Happy Birthday! I'm glad to hear you had such a great day and that you are an expectant mom once again!
Happy Belated Birthday!! It sounds like you got a lot of great gifts. And I know exactly how you feel about turning 29. This past September was my 28th B-Day and all I heard was how I was two years away from 30, that I better get cracking on the baby making, blah blah blah.
How cool that you are going to have a September baby! And a fellow Virgo, at that!
