Finally, I finished this one! It reeeeallly seemed to drag a bit, but I think a lot of the fault lay in the poor quality of this text. I felt like grabbing my red magic marker and editing the hell out of it. It would have been awash in red by the time I was done. If you buy this book, do NOT get the Barnes and Noble edition below.
Lady Audley’s Secret
By Mary Elizabeth Braddon
Published by Barnes and Noble
Finished January 7, 2007
Reason for Reading: It’s for my Classics Challenge on my blog
Review: Lady Audley’s got a secret and death to anyone who finds out! Murder, mystery, intrigue, bigamy, this Victorian bestseller has got it all!
I really enjoyed the story for the most part. It dragged in a few places, a certain character (Mr. Robert Audley!) got on my nerves quite a bit, and there were times when I wondered if the author was letting the story get away from her, but she pulled it off in the end. It has a very satisfactory ending.
I was REALLY annoyed by the poor quality of this text; misspelled words, misnamed characters, etc, and I really think it affected my enjoyment of the book. I was really surprised to see this out of a Barnes and Noble published book.
