It's Monday! What Are You Reading This Week?

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading This Week? is a weekly event to list the books  finished last week, the books currently being read, and the books to be finish this week. It was created by J.Kaye’s Book Blog, but is now being hosted by Sheila from One Person’s Journey Through a World of  Books!

Happy Memorial Day! I hope everyone has safe, happy weekend. Don’t forget to thank a veteran! Give them some mad love.

I have been in a slump for, well, it feels like about 2 months now. I put down over 5 books last week, unfinished, something I absolutely HATE to do. It’s unheard of!

Then, oh then, a miracle appeared in my mailbox Friday. A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness. I read it that night, in one sitting, and oh. Oh, what an amazing experience that was. I don’t want to say any more now, I hope to give it a proper review soon, but oh, how I loved it.

Before I started A Monster Calls, I was struggling through Graveminder by Melissa Marr. Since I paused it to read A Monster Calls, I figured I would go back to it. Suddenly it was so much better! A Monster Calls cures reading slumps! I managed to down almost 200 pages Saturday. My daughter is having a sleep over, so I haven’t had much time to read since, but I hope to finish it today. Hurray for holidays!

I was in the midst of The Ask and the Answer by Patrick Ness when my iPod finally died. The “genius” at the “Genius Bar” at the Apple store informed me there was no fixing it AND it was out of warranty. Don’t that just figure! They are replacing it for half price though, so I guess I can’t complain TOO much. (Even though it was only a year old.) I hope it comes in soon because I am going through some serious iPod withdrawal. *sigh*

Next up? Ship Breaker by Paolo Bagigalupi. I am beyond excited for this one. I just hope this cure holds out.

How was your reading this week? Have any big plans for some holiday reading?

  1. Melissa Marr is a new author to me…I stumbled upon her Wicked Lovely series not too long ago and read it in a day or so. I'll be interested to hear more about your "struggle" with her newest.
I so want to delve into the audioworld…I usually listen to books on my cd player in the car…but I don't really want to BUY audiobooks. I downloaded audible onto my blackberry but haven't really figured it all out yet? I may just have to invest in a new Ipod and go from there :)

  2. I read Graveminder last week, and actually ended up liking it more than the Wicked Lovely books. It's a hard book to talk about though, 'cause you don't want to give too much away.

  3. A Monster Calls must be magnificent. I'm glad it broke your slump.

  4. A Monster Calls sounds amazing. Will definitely have to look for that one!

I've been in a reading slump for the entire month of May it seems like. I'm ready for June and some good summer reading!

Hope you enjoy Ship breaker, and that you get your ipod back soon!

  5. Ah, Ship Breaker! Good stuff!!! I hope you enjoy it. Looking back I have yet to finish one book in May. Now I've read a lot, but I've been bouncing between books so much and also haven't had as much reading time this month. Still, I was shocked to see that. Not sure if I'll manage to finish anything this last day or not. If not this will probably be the first month since I started blogging that I did not finish one single book.

  6. Hello. I followed a few Facebook links and found myself here. I started a book called The Thank You Economy which was given to me at BEA Blogworld, and I started Oliver Twist with my daughters in the evenings. Yep, it's a little sophisticated for them but I wanted to do some Dickens and they lie in bed and fall off to sleep. A nice way to end our day together.

  7. I haaaave to read A Monster Calls! It sounds so darn good.

  8. Yep, I can see A Monster Calls being able to break any reading slump! Of course, it did take me a bit to regroup enough to pick up another book in the first…because, well you know.
