Where do I begin?

So, I want to try a Terry Pratchett book, but I have no IDEA where to begin.  The man is so prolific!  Help?  Where do I start?  Should I start with Good Omens since I love Neil Gaiman so much?

Also, just for curiosity sake, if you could tell me any book or author I just HAD to try, who would it be? I’m feeling adventurous.

  1. My favorite is the Tiffany Aching Series thats where I started but Good Omens is great too!

  2. Funny you should post this just now. I'd never read Pratchett before this month, but I love Gaiman. Someone told me to start with Nation and I just finished it. I'll have a review up soon and will certainly be reading more from him. I don' think I'm the best person to say if that's where you should start, since it's my only Pratchett, but it was good.

  3. Having only read (and absolutely adored!) two of his books so far, I'm probably not a good person to ask. But well, I'm not going to let that stop me from sticking in my two cents…READ NATION. :D Okay, sorry for yelling, but I just really love that book.

  4. Good Omens is awesome and would definitely be a good one to start with. I also agree with Susie about the Tiffany Aching series (the first is The Wee Free Men). And then there's my all-time favourite, Nation, which is pure brilliance. It's hard to go wrong with him whatever you decide, though. Just don't start with The Colour of Magic :P

  5. My son loved Nation! I still need to read it – I haven't read a Terry Pratchett yet either.

  6. I've not read much of Terry Pratchett. The only standalone I read was The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents (or something like that). It was okay but I barely remember it.

On the other hand, I just finished listening to Good Omens and it was AWESOME! I highly recommend it. :)

  7. Good luck, I'm trying to remember the last time I read a book I couldn't put down, I have several started which are just laying around. Happy WW

  8. Nation or Tiffany Aching (Wee Free Men is hilarious!) are the two best places to start. I say that not having read Great Omens. Yet. Hope you find one to enjoy!

  9. Oooh. Love this post because I too have wanted to read Prachett and I too am lost as to where to begin. Thanks!!!!

  10. Over the years, the books that I have been told you should start with are not the first couple of books in the series, but Guards, Guards, the Tiffany Aching books, Mort or Wyrd Sisters.

Guards, Guards are about the guards in the watch house of Ankh Morpork, Mort is about Death who is my favourite Discworld character, and Wyrd Sisters is about the witches featuring Granny Weatherwax

  11. I'm just going to echo Ana's comment because it's basically the exact same thing I would say :p
