It's Monday! What Are You Reading This Week?

Y’all, I did not get much reading done last week.  Well, no, I got quite a bit of reading done, I just didn’t finish anything!  I have bookmarks in:

  • We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson – for the Classic Reads Book Club, in which I am woefully behind.  This is terrible because Chris is leading an amazing discussion.  I. Must. Catch. Up!
  • The Best American Travel Writing 2010, edited by – which I have on my nook from NetGalley and it is the best collection of travel writing I think I have EVER read.  Really.  It is truly fantastic.
  • The House at Riverton by Kate Morton – I lost this for a couple of days and when I found it, I didn’t immediately start reading it again, even though I am suitably intrigued by the story.  I must get back to it.
  • Nightshade by Andrea Cremer - I don’t know, this weekend I was really wanting to read some YA.  Amy gave this a fantastic review and I caved.  I read half of it over the last two days.  It’s the first YA I’ve read in quite awhile that has kept me guessing, which makes me so happy.  I can’t wait to finish it.
  • Stories, edited by Neil Gaiman and Al  - which I have been reading forever!  It is a great collection, I’ve loved everything I’ve read it in so far, it’s just hard to get back too.  Although, in a way I kinda like that….

We won’t even discuss what I need to be reading.  I think I’m having a bad case of Reader’s ADD. I just flit from one thing to the next, zero attention span.  I don’t know what I’m looking for, but Nightshade and the Travel Writing collection have come closest to it so far.  What are you reading that’s good?

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading This Week? is a weekly event to list the books  finished last week, the books currently being read, and the books to be finish this week. It was created by J.Kaye’s Book Blog, but is now being hosted by Sheila from One Person’s Journey Through a World of  Books.!

  1. I really must pick up a copy of that Stories by Neil Gaiman, I thought we had a copy at work, but can't find any trace of it :(

And all the mentions I've seen of We Have Always Lived in The Castle make that look pretty interesting too!

  2. I know what you mean about reading ADD, I have that sometimes too. I started on The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins because I'll be discussing it with my book club in early Nov, but then realized I only had another week left for the MHLRC and so I had to hurry up and read the last Maud Hart Lovelace book I'd requested via ILL. Combined the two books are over 800 pages and I have just over 2 weeks to read them both. Hmm… I must stay focused!

Btw, The House at Riverton. I had some mixed feelings about the book, but I really like Kate Morton as a writer. Still, I think it's worth the push to finish. (http://libraryhospital.blogspot.com/2010/07/house-at-riverton-by-kate-morton.html)

  3. I'm glad to hear that you are liking "Nightshade" so well, I just picked that up at GLIBA.

I have a suggestion for a book to get you going again. I just bought it, but haven't started it yet: "My Mother She Killed Me, My Father He Ate Me." Classic fairy tales re-written and re-imagined by the likes of Neil Gaiman and Aimee Bender!

  4. I bet you finish a lot of books this week!

  5. Don't worry about being behind; Castle is a really quick read! And it's so so good :D

  6. I've had a horrible attention span lately too! And like Ana said, don't worry about being behind…you can so catch up quick with our book club book :) And isn't Stories UHmazing?!

  7. I'm LOVING We Always Lived in a Castle!!! It is a quick addiction so no worries there :)

  8. "I think I’m having a bad case of Reader’s ADD. I just flit from one thing to the next, zero attention span."…Story of my reading life! I have to say if feels nice to be in such lovely company, even if you will likely recover and with me it seems to be a chronic condition. :)

Hooray! I'm really glad to hear that you are enjoying Nightshade! And I also have Stories here – so good :)
