When do I listen to audiobooks? Whenever I can! Especially if I have a good book going.
Once upon a time, I didn’t have an iPod. I didn’t have an MP3 player. Thankfully I did have a CD player AND a tape deck in my car (it was a 4Runner and I loved that car and I really really miss it). Back then, my library had mostly Books on Tape and just a small collection of Books on CD and they really weren’t. that. great. BUT, I could listen to them in the car. Even then, I didn’t have a high regard for radio and I hadn’t discovered NPR yet.
NOW, my lovely, sweet, adoring husband and my gorgeous children gave me a 160 gig iPod for Mother’s Day. (They gave me an 8 gig last year. Needless to say, it was full to the brim.) I love it! I have tons of books on there, so it’s not hard to find something to fit my mood and I can listen anywhere! I listen in the car. I listen while I work out. It’s been great for that, it motivates me to actually go into the gym and DO something. I listen on my way to the grocery store, library, I listen while cooking, cleaning, folding laundry… anything to get another book in. I would listen in the bath if I could. I’ve been known to listen in bed and night, which actually isn’t that great because I fall asleep and have to find the point where I lost the story. But still, it can be done! And it is marvelous. I love audiobooks!

The trick for listening before going to bed? Set a bookmark at the point at which you start, then set the sleep timer for whatever you need (30 min?). I don't have an iPod, but this works on all of my Creative players.
I love you Candace. I will investigate that right now!
I listen whenever I can as well!
I tend not to listen when I fall asleep for that very reason. If I really need to listen to something I’ll put on a podcast that I’m okay with not hearing all of. I can’t even imagine a 160 gig Ipod, I have a 4 gig nano! I can still fit a couple books and lots of podcasts on it, though, so that’s okay with me, I just have to decide what my next book (or two) will be when I load the iPod.
OMG Jen, I have like 20 or so books on there (with podcasts and music and even 3 movies!) and I think it is maybe 1/10th. It is heaven!
I remember so well books on tape! I was always afraid the tape would get eaten in my Walkman! Yay for the iPod!
Heather,
I always use it at bedtime too and, if i fall asleep, for me it is pretty easy to find when i left off on that particular disc I find.
