A Very Wednesday Book Coveting

In honor of the most fabulous week of September – ZOMBIE WEEK – I am throwing together a very special edition of Book Coveting.

This time, it’s all things ZOMBIE.  Because you know, ZOMBIE is the new sparkly vampire – just not, you know, sparkly.  Zombies are way better than sparkles.  You didn’t know that?  Aren’t you glad you came by today?

To stir things up a little bit more, I am going to give you the books YOU should be coveting.  Go ahead and open up your wish lists, you’re going to want to write these down!

slowdanceTitle: Never Slow Dance with a Zombie
Author: E. Van Lowe
Reason: Uh, look at the cover?  Dude.  Also. Since ZOMBIE WEEK is in honor of this particular book and geez, it just looks GOOD; it is at the top of the list.  What is it about?  Do you really care?  LOOK at that COVER!  Okay, okay.

Product Description from Amazon

Principal Taft’s 3 Simple Rules for Surviving a Zombie Uprising:

Rule #1: While in the halls, walk slowly and wear a vacant expression on your face. Zombies won’t attack other zombies.

Rule #2:  Never travel alone.  Move in packs.  Follow the crowd.  Zombies detest blatant displays of individuality.

Rule #3:  If a zombie should attack, do not run. Instead, throw raw steak at to him.  Zombies love raw meat.

This display of kindness will go a long way.On the night of her middle school graduation, Margot Jean Johnson wrote a high school manifesto detailing her goals for what she was sure would be a most excellent high school career. She and her best friend, Sybil, would be popular and, most important, have boyfriends. Three years later, they haven’t accomplished a thing!

Then Margot and Sybil arrive at school one day to find that most of the student body has been turned into flesh-eating zombies. When kooky Principal Taft asks the girls to coexist with the zombies until the end of the semester, they realize that this is the perfect opportunity to live out their high school dreams. All they have to do is stay alive….

Now really; don’t you want to read it? It’s sounds effin hilarious!  I totally want this one too.  It’s already on my wish list.Next, the ZOMBIE book you totally need to read (what is it about Zombies that make me descend into my old high school vernacular?  Totally weird) is THE FOREST OF HANDS AND TEETH because it is beyond me why you have not read this book.  Because it is AWESOME.

ForestTitle: The Forest of Hands and Teeth
Author: Carrie Ryan
Reason: It’s just that dang good.  Seriously.  I think when I reviewed it here before (my review) I described it as a cross between Nathaniel Hawthorne and George Romaro.  I stand by that description and add, it is freaking awesome.  Read it already.

Product Description from Amazon
In Mary’s world there are simple truths. The Sisterhood always knows best. The Guardians will protect and serve. The Unconsecrated will never relent. And you must always mind the fence that surrounds the village; the fence that protects the village from the Forest of Hands and Teeth. But, slowly, Mary’s truths are failing her. She’s learning things she never wanted to know about the Sisterhood and its secrets, and the Guardians and their power, and about the Unconsecrated and their relentlessness. When the fence is breached and her world is thrown into chaos, she must choose between her village and her future—between the one she loves and the one who loves her. And she must face the truth about the Forest of Hands and Teeth. Could there be life outside a world surrounded in so much death?

While we are discussing Carrie Ryan, I will add that I am OMG so desperate to get The Dead-Tossed Waves.  Ms. Ryan mentioned on Twitter yesterday that the ARCs would be going out soon and I have to figure out how to get my hands on one.  You see, because it doesn’t come out until MARCH.  Oh I can’t stand it.  The description sounds so good.

Title: The Dead-Tossed Waves
Author: Carrie Ryan
Reason: I just can’t take it anymore, I NEED to read this.

Product Description
Gabry lives a quiet life. As safe a life as is possible in a town trapped between a forest and the ocean, in a world teeming with the dead, who constantly hunger for those still living. She’s content on her side of the Barrier, happy to let her friends dream of the Dark City up the coast while she watches from the top of her lighthouse. But there are threats the Barrier cannot hold back. Threats like the secrets Gabry’s mother thought she left behind when she escaped from the Sisterhood and the Forest of Hands and Teeth. Like the cult of religious zealots who worship the dead. Like the stranger from the forest who seems to know Gabry. And suddenly, everything is changing. One reckless moment, and half of Gabry’s generation is dead, the other half imprisoned. Now Gabry only knows one thing: she must face the forest of her mother’s past in order to save herself and the one she loves.

prideandprejudiceandzombiesTitle: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
Authors: Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith
Reason: It’s just so funny!  And there is a new HARDBACK edition coming out in October. I’m so jealous.

Product Description
It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains. So begins “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies”, an expanded edition of the beloved Jane Austen novel featuring all-new scenes of bone-crunching zombie mayhem. As our story opens, a mysterious plague has fallen upon the quiet English village of Meryton – and the dead are returning to life! Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is determined to wipe out the zombie menace, but she’s soon distracted by the arrival of the haughty and arrogant Mr. Darcy. What ensues is a delightful comedy of manners with plenty of civilized sparring between the two young lovers – and even more violent sparring on the blood-soaked battlefield as Elizabeth wages war against hordes of flesh-eating undead.

So there you have it.  A good introduction to the delightfully blood and crazy world of ZOMBIES.  Happy ZOMBIE week to you all!
