THE RIP EDITION (Duh-duh-dunnnnnn)
With the conclusion of the Once Upon a Time challenge behind me; I’m chomping at the bit to get to my favorite reading challenge of all time – The RIP (Readers Imbibing Peril) Challenge. So here is a RIP edition of books I am coveting to read during this most excellent of challenges. What is it now, the fourth year of RIP? Oh my goodness.
Prophesy of the Sisters by Michelle Zink – because, yes, I love the cover. It just looks so lovely and gothic and creepy!
An ancient prophecy divides two sisters-
One good…
One evil…
Who will prevail?
Twin sisters Lia and Alice Milthorpe have just become orphans. They have also become enemies. As they discover their roles in a prophecy that has turned generations of sisters against each other, the girls find themselves entangled in a mystery that involves a tattoo-like mark, their parents’ deaths, a boy, a book, and a lifetime of secrets.
Lia and Alice don’t know whom they can trust.
They just know they can’t trust each other.
Fallen by Lauren Kate OMG is that not a GORGEOUS cover??? I have to have it! And doesn’t it sound SO GOOD?
Seventeen-Year-Old Luce is a new student at Sword & Cross, an unwelcoming boarding/reform school in Savannah, Georgia. Luce’s boyfriend died under suspicious circumstances, and now she carries the guilt over his death with her as she navigates the unfriendly halls at Sword & Cross, where every student seems to have an unpleasant—even evil—history.
It’s only when she sees Daniel, a gorgeous fellow student, that Luce feels there’s a reason to be here—though she doesn’t know what it is. And Daniel’s frosty cold demeanor toward her? It’s really a protective device that he’s used again . . . and again. For Daniel is a fallen angel, doomed to fall in love with the same girl every 17 years . . . and watch her die. And Luce is a fellow immortal, cursed to be reincarnated again and again as a mortal girl who has no idea of who she really is.
Offworld by Robin Parrish - Because it just sounds so good! And I seem to be on quite the dystopian kick this year. I doubt it really fits the RIP theme…it does sound kinda scary though.
“Every Person on This Planet Has Disappeared.” Commander Christopher Burke and his crew are humanity’s greatest explorers. They’ve finished their mission on the red dirt of Mars and now they just want to get back to Earth. To see friends, family, and loved ones. To be home. But even with communication to ground control cut and a perilous landing, nothing could prepare the crew for what they discover when they step foot back on planet Earth. Everyone…everywhere…is gone. It’s not a dream. It’s not a trick. Now Burke and his team have one mission:find out who or what is behind the disappearance of all mankind.
Boneshaker by Cherie Priest – One word. ZOMBIES!!!!! And it just sounds so good. And you know, really, that is an excellent cover. Isn’t it? *sigh* I am such a cover whore.
In the early days of the Civil War, rumors of gold in the frozen Klondike brought hordes of newcomers to the Pacific Northwest. Anxious to compete, Russian prospectors commissioned inventor Leviticus Blue to create a great machine that could mine through Alaska’s ice. Thus was Dr. Blue’s Incredible Bone-Shaking Drill Engine born.
But on its first test run the Boneshaker went terribly awry, destroying several blocks of downtown Seattle and unearthing a subterranean vein of blight gas that turned anyone who breathed it into the living dead.
Now it is sixteen years later, and a wall has been built to enclose the devastated and toxic city. Just beyond it lives Blue’s widow, Briar Wilkes. Life is hard with a ruined reputation and a teenaged boy to support, but she and Ezekiel are managing. Until Ezekiel undertakes a secret crusade to rewrite history.
His quest will take him under the wall and into a city teeming with ravenous undead, air pirates, criminal overlords, and heavily armed refugees. And only Briar can bring him out alive.
That’s it for now! What books have you been coveting this week?

I love the cover for Prophesy of the Sisters. I would read that one without reading anything about it.
I have been trying not to covet new books, but I think I really want to read the new Audrey Nifenegger. The story sounds so good!
I'm trying not to buy any new books, but I figure I can covet all I want. It's like men, look but don't touch!
And yes, I cannot wait for the new Niffenegger. I'm so excited she finally has a new book coming out!
Oooh, those all sound good! I'm covering a few books for RIP too, particularly Let The Right One In. But because my tbr pile is really getting out of hand, I'm making a deal with myself: I only get to acquire more RIPish books if I read the ones in my tbr pile first.
Good luck with the challenge!
OH! You've totally sold me on Fallen. But it's not out until December! AHHH! (Now to use my magic powers to get an ARC… ha!)
I looooooovee the cover of Boneshaker. Very steampunk don't you think?
I was reading your post with my boyfriend sitting next to me. The cover of Boneshaker caught his eye and he demands that we go buy it today!
You've chosen some great covet-worthy books.
I just read and reviewed Offworld and I think it would fit the RIP challenge just fine. It's suitably creepy and atmospheric, IMHO.
Oh, all of these look really good! I must start thinking about my R.I.P books… hm…
Boneshaker is one I want too, and it is as much because of the cover as it is because of Cherie Priest.
Off World looks like it might be interesting. I may have to give this one a try!
