Right this minute | I’m contemplating whether I want to do Armchair BEA or not.

Feeling | Snuffly. After working in the garden yesterday, which involved a LOT of grass pulling, my allergies are going haywire.

Reading | I started Lynsey Addario’s It’s What I Do: A Photographer’s Life of Love and War yesterday, after finishing The Long Walk by Stephen King (FINALLY) and so far, it’s fantastic. I also finished the edge-of-my-seat thriller Before I Go to Sleep by SJ Watson in audio Friday. It took me a bit, but I finally settled on the full cast recording of Neil Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book. WHICH IS COMPLETELY FANTASTIC.

Also, Neil Gaiman tweeted to me and Jennifer from The Lit Housewife. I’m not sure which of us was more over the moon about it!

Listening | Oh, yeah. See above? Also, lots of bluegrass. For some reason my daughter is falling in love with it.

Watching | Minecraft videos. If I don’t gouge my eyes out. My son is obsessed.

Blogging | I shared what I was reading on Monday, then Tuesday, I gave you some of my recent favorite book covers. Wednesday, I posted one of my favorite shots from our trip to Washington in March. I skipped Thursday because life was just too busy, but Friday I brought you my favorite bookish podcasts. More podcasts to come soon. I’m thinking of doing the food ones next.

Promoting | The Estella Project Season 3!!! Come and give us your favorite book to push on everyone!

Oh, and more fun things coming soon!

Loving | That my daughter has made a reading plan for the summer. She has 12 books and she wants to finish them before school starts. This nerdy mama’s heart is full.

Hating | My teeth. One of my wisdom teeth decided to act up this weekend. It hurts!

Eating | Just had some GF waffles with peanut butter and honey. Yum!

Exercising | My mind. By writing this.

Anticipating | Summer!

Meal Plan | Grilled Churrasco with Green Chimichuri – probably tonight? Also Mexican Street Corn and grilled veggies.

I’m a little homesick for Texas, so I’m planning to have some Cornmeal Fried Catfish (from The Best 30 Minute Recipe by Cook’s Illustrated cookbook) with potatoes and asparagus. I had some excellent catfish when I visited Andi last year and dude. I have such a craving.

Lastly, I am planning on Garlic Herb Roasted Shrimp with rice and whatever leftover veggies I have by then.

Oh, and I’m making Strawberry Ice Cream tomorrow. We always have a Bring Your Own Meats cookout at my mother-in-law’s on Memorial Day. I have a ton of chicken to take.

Happy Memorial Day weekend!

  1. Loving your “loving” – nothing thrills my heart more than to hear my kids picking summer books (oldest is home from college and couldn’t wait to have “free” time this summer to “just read”). It never grows old to me. Nerdy moms unite! We’re raising awesome future adults. 🙂
    Have a great weekend!

    1. I know right? I took much delight in finding books around the house she could read. And her choices are fantastic.

  2. So how was The Long Walk?

And I hear you on exercising your mind. That’s about where I am too. Of course, I did mow the lawn yesterday. Surprisingly (knock on wood), my allergies aren’t too bad…yet. Today, though, it’s supposed to be in the high 80s here so that might test that idea. We’ll see.

  3. Glad you enjoyed Before I Go To Sleep – I liked it when I read it last year or maybe the year before. Good for your daughter – a reading plan for summer and she already has picked out 12 books – fun!! And now I’m thinking that catfish sounds good soon. Can totally understand being homesick for Texas – I mean, why would not be? Ha! Although, we are about to wash away down here in the Austin/Hill Country area and actually other parts are also drenched. Positive note – the drought levels are way, way down, yay! Have a good week!!

    1. Before I Go To Sleep was EXACTLY what I needed. So good.

Even though I’ve never lived in Texas (came sort of close once) I loved it. Especially the catfish. And the people. But the catfish-YUM.

    1. All of a sudden she’s reading. For fun. I’m just pretending it’s normal. Don’t want to scare her off! lol

  4. I’m trying not to slobber after reading everything you’re making. 🙂 I love that your daughter is making reading plans for the summer. 12 is a good number. Tell her I might steal her idea. 🙂

  5. Oh my god, I’m so delighted by your kid’s reading plans. That’s precious and very admirable.
What’s making you on the fence about Armchair BEA? I’ve never done it before, so I have no idea what to expect haha.
Also I’m so sorry about the minecraft videos. My summer job is to teach minecraft classes (yes, I get paid for this) and there is nothing worse than being a room full of 15+ kids excited about minecraft. it’s the stuff of nightmares haha.

  6. So cool about Neil!!!!!!! You’re on a first-name basis now, yeah?

I can’t wait to read Lynsey Addario’s book. Hope you’re loving it.

  7. I’m so excited that my 20yo daughter is reading at all; I’d be positively giddy if she made a 12 book reading list. Raisin’ her right, mom!
