Every so often, my books have a discussion, behind my back, about what I should read. At least it seems that way. My reading is coming together in a pleasant, if unexpected, way.
My first read of the year was West With the Night. It took place in Africa.
My third book was Great Expectations.
One of the books I am currently reading takes place in Africa and involves a white man reading Great Expectations to his class of black children.
How’s that for the circle of a bookish life? It doesn’t happen very often to me, but when it does, it feels so cool! I have another book in my TBR about a white woman who marries a black Masai warrior. I suppose I should read it next!
Hee, I love it when that happens. I'm looking forward to your review of GE… I'm still reading it but my attention was caught up in the latest Maisie Dobbs novel so GE has been put on hold.
Love that! That's why it pays to keep track of what we read…the patterns and serendipitous occurrences are fascinating.
