End of Reading Year Countdown: #3 for 2007

14403594.jpgMy number three is the novels of O.R. Melling that have had the good fortune (or good sense?) to be published in America.

See, I told you I was going to cheat again.  But I couldn’t pick just one of the three books I read by Melling this year.  In fact, it sort of feels like one book, because I read them all one after the other.  The Hunter’s Moon, The Summer King, and The Lightbearer’s Daughter are all fairy tales set in modern day Ireland.  The author really knows her stuff too, her characters often give insight into the real folk tales from Ireland’s rich history.  So, while you enjoy a great story, you’re also learning about Ireland and all her fairy tales.  All three of these books are really great reads if you enjoy fantasty, fairy tale-ish works, young adult novels and Ireland.

I’ll be glad when the rest of her work is published here!

  1. The fourth book is supposed to be out there soon. I read her blog and she just sent it into her publisher at the end of last year. I have the original versions, where I live in Canada, but one of these days I plan to read the new versions too. She is also working on some new stuff, but those are still in the early stages. She has other books, but even I can't get ahold of them easily, so I doubt they are available in the US at all.

  2. Kailana, where is her blog??? I didn't know she had one!! I'm glad to hear she has a new book coming out. I wish I could get all her books, I guess I'll just have to keep patiently waiting for them to (hopefully) be published here. I have them on my BookMooch wishlist too, maybe one day one will come across there.
