Advent Calendar Day 19

Virtual Advent #1_edited-1

This is my third year doing the Advent Tour! Yay me! Somehow I missed it last year. In 2011, I introduced everyone to my daughter’s Christmas present (a very young looking Mr. Blue!) and in 2010, I showed off a few of my favorite Christmas ornaments.

This year, I’m going to share a family Christmas tradition.

Every year, as soon as I can talk everyone in my family into; which is earlier and earlier every year (this year it was the day after Thanksgiving!) we watch my favorite Christmas movie: The Polar Express. And have peppermint milkshakes! So far this year, we’ve only done it 3 times, but not for lack of trying on my part.

Speaking of trying…I need to get some peppermint ice cream.

If you’ve never seen this movie, you are really missing out. At first, I found it a bit creepy, but the story, the music…it all wove itself into my heart and I adore it. Here’s a clip of one of my favorite songs from the movie:

Do any of your holiday traditions contain favorite movies and treats? I’d love to hear about it!

Follow the Advent Calendar here. And many thanks to Kelly and Marg for hosting this fun event every year!

And Merry Christmas!

  1. I read books with my grandchildren and watch some of the shows on Netflix. We did watch Polar Express the other day. Since I’ve become an “empty nester” I like watching at least one of the “Hallmark” or “ABC Family” Christmas shows they have on everyday. A cup of hot cocoa goes well with it. I enjoyed your advent post very much. Have a Merry Christmas. kelley—the road goes ever ever on

  2. I really like this movie, too! I attempt to push for Muppet Christmas Carol in my house and I haven’t even seen it yet this year. Also not from lack of trying… Maybe tonight! Thanks for joining in again this year and for making our buttons!

  3. I don’t think any of our Christmas movies pair with specific foods, but I think they are all improved with the addition of hot chocolate (with a mound of whipped cream and holiday sprinkles) and spritz cookies.
