Mid Year Assessment Thingy
Andi did her Mid Year Assessment Thingy (as has numberous other peoples. Yes I intentionally misspelled that.) the other day and you know me. I’m a follower. So I gots to do it too. Plus, I love making lists! I am CDO! I cannot begin to tell you how much I love that.
So let’s see. At this very moment, I have read 60 books! Woot! Go me! Many, many of them were quite good. A few were stellar. And a few were duds. Here are the numbers:
Books total: 60
Books with pages: 44
Books with audio: 16
Graphic novels: 10
Fiction: 49
Nonfiction: 11
Adult: 42
YA: 18
Wow, I’ve read more YA than I thought! Although I do see if slacking off as the year went on. I hope I get more nonfiction read as I’m really enjoying the ones that I’ve read. All in all, I’m on par with last year (with less YA though. Sad face.) and on track to get in about 120 books. I read 125 last year, so that looks good! Here’s the break down.
Stellar (I can’t wait to read them again they were so good) books
Mr. Rosenblum Dreams in English by Natasha Solomons (I so totally adore this book, I don’t know how there is room for other books on this list my adoration is so complete.)
Waiting for Columbus by Thomas Trofimuk (Part of me is still out on the beach with Christopher Columbus)
Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand by Helen Simonson (Can I marry Major Pettigrew? Please?)
The House of Tomorrow by Peter Bognanni (I want to live in a biodome)
Marcelo in the Real World by Francisco X. Stork (If I can’t marry Major Pettigrew, can I marry Marcello?)
The Unnamed by Joshua Ferris (makes me wary of walking)
Monsters of Men by Patrick Ness (Does it really have to be over Mr. Ness?????)
Quite good (maybe listen to audio someday? Well, except for the Thompson? Because how do you listen to a graphic novel?) books
The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen (I love her brand of magical realism)
Soulless by Gail Carringer (Probably the last vampire series I’m interested in.)
Blankets by Craig Thompson (Teenage angst as an art form! I love it!)
Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder (So, maybe fantasy isn’t dead to me yet.)
Disappointing, but not hate-worthy
Day for Night by Frederick Reiken (Yes, I am ashamed to say it. Despite it’s lovely parts.)
The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender (I hate it too, I had such high expectations.)
Dud (sucktacular, I never want to see these again) books
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, retold by Tom Ratliff (THE GRAPHIC NOVEL ONLY! I ADORE THIS BOOK!)
Cleaving: A Story of Marriage, Meat and Obsession by Julie Powell (I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit)
Beautiful Dead by Eden Maquire (I still groan when I think of this book)
Beatrice and Virgil by Yann Martel (Still a puzzle, this book)
A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Graphic Shakespeare (Ugh)
So there’s half a years reading. I hope the second half is just as good as the first. I think my half-hearted attempts at Reading More Deliberately are paying off. I’m still reading some stuff that isn’t stellar, but I am inclined to think that a few books that are not absolutely fabulous serve to make those that are stand out even more. I’m happy with where I am at this point. How has your reading year been so far?
